Hepatitis A Exposure Alert—Visitors Told to Monitor Symptoms

United States: The Massachusetts Department of Public Health told the public on Saturday that it is possible that people who visited The Red Inn from April 30 to May 15 were exposed to hepatitis A.

More about the news

The health department said that an employee at the Commercial Street restaurant tested positive for hepatitis A during the dates in question.

If you want to prevent hepatitis A, the health department advises that you need a hepatitis A vaccine before symptoms start and for two weeks after you have been exposed.

At first, indications of hepatitis A are morning fever, tiredness, low appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice, masslive.com reported.

According to the health department, hepatitis A infection can be mild and only last two weeks or, in more serious cases, can continue for four weeks or more.

Sometimes, children who get infected experience such few symptoms that the illness escapes notice, while even people who feel only mildly sick can still spread the virus, according to the health department.

Even if the hepatitis A infection is only mild, people with symptoms ought to see a doctor.

You can get hepatitis A if you come in contact with an infected person’s feces, are in close proximity to an infected person, or drink or eat things handled by an infected person, according to the health department, masslive.com reported.

People who may have come into contact with the virus at The Red Inn are advised to clean their hands well before cooking or preparing food.
