United States: The newer, a much more potent version of fentanyl which is known as carfentanil, kills hundreds of people each year, physicians report.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that between 2021 and mid 2024 513 deaths have been reported to have involved carfentanil. Carfentanil is only one-tenth the size of the typical fentanyl molecule, and it is way stronger than the basic fentanyl.
Carfentanil’s purpose was to make large animals stun and is said to be 10 000 times stronger than morphine or even 100 times fentanyl.
As reported by the Hill, really only 2 milligrams can manage an elephant, it can even kill fifty people as depicted in a Department of Veteran Affairs report.
The CDC has reported that drug overdose death has been reducing since 2023 in general. Although they have declined in other nations, they are still high in the United States and the majority are associated with IMF fentanyl’s.
Lethality from carfentanil contemporary has also emerged as relatively rare, and the report cautions against a new emerging illegal drug supply, which is putting the gains made in curbing overdose fatalities at risk.

The cases where carfentanil was identified in the deaths were relatively small between January 2021 and June 2023, under 30 per any six months covered by the report.
More intends to die from Carfentanil this year, by June, 238 people has died from the drug, which is 720 percent increase from the first half of 2023 to the first half of 2024.
They were found in about 70-80% to 70-80% of the overdose deaths between 2021 and 2024 in the northeast, mid-west and south regions though the rate of death from IMFs has not significantly changed over the last three years.
Overdose deaths involved IMFs have gradually increased within Western states. IMF overdose deaths in the West increased the proportion of the 48.5 percent recorded in 2021 to 66.5 percent in the first half of 2024.
But the overdose deaths connected to the carfentanil spiked in the latter half of 2023 and also jumping from the 29 to the almost 175 by a December and roughly 503 percent increase
